Photographs of Old Things

Vintage Bronze After-Brancusi’s Bird in Space, Soapstone Base, $250
I found this in Illinois a few months ago.  It appears to be a small study of Brancusi’s Bird in Space series.  It’s not quite accurate, but the basic shape is very similar.  The main difference is scale.  This is much much smaller.  Brancusi’s Birds are abstract, tall and slightly architectural, with their surfaces reflecting everything in the room around them.  In this size, less than 12 inches tall, it feels more like an implement than a sculpture, and any relation to birds or flight is really sort of lost.  But I like that about it.  It almost feels like a Brancusi souvenir.
