Mid 1900s Folk Art Wood Carving of Geronimo (sold)

I was in New Jersey earlier this week and met a woman from Colorado who had a nice little collection of Western antiques.  The Geronimo carving was the best thing she had, but I didn’t realize how good it was until I photographed it this morning.  The face is beautifully stylized, and the expression is surprisingly complex.  It’s stoic and sad, but I swear he’s half smiling at me right now.
