1890-1900s Art Nouveau Hunter vs. Wolf Signet Ring, Sterling Silver (sold)
I’ve never been sure why hunting was a popular motif in Art Nouveau jewelry. It’s inconsistent with the more dominant feminine and organic themes. Women appear frequently in Art Nouveau design motifs, often with flowing hair and bodies intertwined in organic forms. Men, on the other hand, appear very infrequently, and are almost always depicted as hunters.
Just a reminder that we’re open regular hours this week and next, and then we’ll be open by appointment only until July 10th. For appointments during that time, just email me. I should be available lots of the time, but imminent paternity will no doubt limit things a bit.
